Little Happies -- Chalk Talk

Hi, friends! And welcome back to Little Happies... the happiest little link-up on the planet, in which we all share the joyful minor cool things going on in our lives currently. Now, what could be happier than that?

I've gotta preface this week's Happies by saying John and I have been in a funky funk lately. He's had a really rough go at work these past few weeks and my new progesterone prescription is making me tired, cranky, and blaaah. And then CD1 happened and... you get the picture. Basically, we've been a double hot mess lately. BUT, none of that nonsense has stopped us from counting our blessings and embracing the good. So, despite all the crud we've been working through lately, we still have lots to be thankful for...

'Scuse the selfie.

And sorry I kept you all in suspense on this one. I kept the chevron top! (Just call me Chevron Weasley.) And then I rocked it on Monday and felt like a million bucks. It always feels good to wear newly purchased clothing, no? It brings about a special kind of confidence.

Then, the day was made even better by a trip to our favorite fried chicken restaurant. I may have gone off the anti-inflammatory diet quite a bit (sweet tea and mac n' cheese and fried chicken), but it made the CD1 blues go away reeeeal quick. Worth it.

Upon arriving at work on Tuesday, a coworker approached me and one other female coworker and said she was sick of seeing poop accidentally left behind in the toilet and was pretty sure it was one of our male coworkers. Ha! I did all I could to not giggle through the whole conversation. In the end, our plan of action was to put up a sign for a week to see if it made a difference. And since my lady coworkers consider me the "tech savvy" one (they're both more than double my age), they put me in charge of making the sign. I tried to keep it playful and goofy, but still make the point.

How'd I do? :)

When someone tells me to go to my happy place, I drive to Teavana.

First, just look at how pretty it is! Color color color!

Second, they let you SMELL ALL THE FLAVORS. Free smells!

Third, if you pick one of the cheaper teas, you can have them brew you a cup for just $2.99. It's my favorite way to try new teas.

And in case you were curious, my current two favorite summer flaves are Blackberry Mojito Green Tea and Passion Tango, iced... obvi!

We took a cooking class at Whole Foods! The theme was "A Night in Morocco" and it was deliciously fun! A great date night, indeed. I plan on posting a more detailed review with pics and recipes later this week, so look out for that.

Actually, it was a bit of an action packed weekend. Friends over on Friday night, cooking class date night on Saturday, and pottery painting with the youth group on Sunday. Whew!

I decided to paint a plate for my jewelry. Right now, my earrings and bracelets and watches are just a hodge podge mess in a cupboard in our bedroom. But not after this comes home! It should be ready for pick up later this week.

Ah, our little project for the week!

For a while now, John and I have wanted to buy a chalkboard for our apartment, but never found one we both liked. That is, until this past week. We found this one at Hobby Lobby and fell in love pretty instantly. However, once we got it home, we realized the blackboard part of it was just a piece of smooth black plastic. And it was horrible for writing on with chalk. LAME.

So, instead of doing what a normal person would do and just returning it to the store, John decided to take matters into his own hands and FORCE the lame black plastic to become an actual chalkboard. How, you wonder? Well, with chalkboard paint, of course! 4 coats and 3 days of drying later, we are proud to say we have a fully functional and fashionable chalkboard on our wall now. LOVE.

Pretty sure the best part of the whole ordeal was having a fun project to work on together.

Have a lovely week, friends! Can't wait to read to read your Happies!

  1. All good stuff! That is the best "don't make us find your poop" sign I've ever seen! Your coworkers were right to put you in charge.

I'm sorry it's been double-funky at your house lately. No bueno. I hope you are able to navigate it with grace and patience. (If you figure out how to do that, please blog about it so I have a tutorial!)

    1. Ha! I suppose I could write a blog post about how I *try* to navigate funkiness with grace and patience, but I'm not sure it'd be very helpful, as I haven't quite figured it out yet. Hrmmm...

Glad you like the "flush your poop, dudes!" sign. It's made me giggle all week.

  2. OK girl, you are hilarious with your sign creativity. Seriously. I love it! I also love that plate. You did a great job painting it! What did John make? I am curious to see his inner crafting skills after that chalk paint debut :) BTW, the placement of the chalkboard looks great.

    1. Ok, glad to hear that sign is making people laugh. PHEW! That probably means it hasn't offended anyone at work who's read it.

John unfortunately didn't make anything when we went pottery painting. :( He had just gotten a phone call from work and all the patients from last week were checked out to him (since he started his work week today) and the list was waaaayyyy long and overwhelming. Poor thing! He was in such a funk that he went next door to get some diet coke and relax for a while instead of painting. Ugh, so bummed for him.

Thanks for helping us place the chalkboard! We love it. :)

  3. HA that sign...brilliant! Hopefully it works, but even if it doesn't, worth it :) Love love love the chevron, and the new chalkboard is awesome! We have one that is super similar but can't find a place to hang it...grr!

    1. Yay! Glad you like the sign, the chevron, and the chalkboard! We actually took a bunch of stuff off the wall there to hang the chalkboard. It was the only good place for it. Do you have a decorated wall that you could de-decorate to fit yours?

  4. This is such a great list, and your sign definitely made me smile! I love that you are finding the little joys, even in the midst of a less than easy week; and I can see why the shirt put a smile on your face! :)

    1. I sure am trying to remain positive! It was easy this past week with so many fun things going on. Hoping this week is easy on my heart too! And same to you! Glad you liked the sign and the shirt. :) You're too kind.

    1. Ha! Glad you like the sign. :) I'm definitely going to try to write about the class this week. You guys should totally take one! It was a lovely date night. Do you and Chuck both like to cook?

    2. I love to cook. He can make... pasta. lol. But maybe I could get him interested in it sometime, for my sake :-)

    3. Haha, pasta. Well, the instructor of the class we went to assumed that none of us knew what we were doing, just to cover the range of skills in the class. So, I bet he'd be able to catch on. And maybe even help in the kitchen whenever you make the recipes you learn at the class. Sounds like a fun plan to me! :)

  6. Love your sign as well...something for laughs. I should take a cooking class as well...I'm up for trying new things. John was very resourceful in making that chalk board work!

    1. Yay! Glad the sign made you laugh. :) I bet you'd love a cooking class! It was a great way to switch up our normal "just go out to eat" type of date night. Definitely a good time! Does you guys like to cook? And yes, when John wants to make a project happen, he's all over it! Glad it turned out lovely in the end! Sometimes, we're not crafty enough to pull off projects like that, but painting is pretty easy, so it worked. :)

  7. I just LOVE the sign for #2 (at Lil' Happy #2 - ha!)!! I hope that works!!
You painted a beautiful plate!! Wow! Did you freehand that or use tape or ... whatever you did - make more and sell them. It is beautiful!!
I love all your Happies! So fun!!

    1. Thanks, girl! :) You're so sweet! I definitely used tape on my plate to get all those lines straight. Otherwise, it would have been a hot mess. Haha. :) And I sure hope my #2 sign works. Although, I've never seen accidental leftover #2 in the office, but may that's because I go in after noon and the culprit is a morning pooper. :P

  8. Wow, for being in a funk lately, you sure know how to write a happy post. Everything you did sounds so fun! My husband loves Teavana with a capital L. He's always up for a trip to the mall...not to accompany me clothes shopping but so he can hang out at Teavana. :) One time a customer was asking the sales girl for recommendations to blend with a certain kind of tea, and the sales girl didn't know what to say, so my husband jumped in with his favorite blends. The customer took my husband's recommendations and ended up buying over $100 of tea. I told him he should have charged commission. :) Oh, and you look so cute in the chevron top! So glad you kept it!

    1. Thanks, polkadot! Perhaps my funk doesn't come across because we really did fill the week with fun activities. Great distractions, but the funk still remains. You probably know how it goes. Oh, the life of an infertile! Anywho, glad to hear your husband is Teavana obsessed too! That story is hilarious. He seriously should charge commission or consider working for them once a week or something like that for discounts. :)

    1. Thankfully, John and I are closer than ever, despite the funk. We've become really good at leaning on each other through the tough times. I just wish we didn't have to feel so bummed all the time. Hopefully it'll all be behind us soon. :) I'll tell John you like the chalkboard! He'll love the compliment. :)
